Ralph M. Eskenazi

Obituary in Seattle Times

Ralph M. Eskenazi May 8, 1925 - September 23, 2010 Our father was a wonderful man and lived a wonderful life. On September 23, 2010, he passed peacefully in his sleep after a sudden, but brief illness. Born of parents Sarah and Mordo Eskenazi, who emigrated here in 1905 from Marmara and Bursa, Turkey, Ralph grew up in Seattle and attended Garfield High School. At age 17, he joined the navy and upon his return in 1946, he completed his senior year of high school. Ralph met the love of his life, Colleen (Connie) Alhadeff, and they were married in 1956. Ralph and Connie had two children; Saralyn and Michael. Our dad had a love of cars and anything mechanical. He was the "test driver" for his extended family and he could fix just about anything you gave him. He also had a great love of sport fishing and was an avid fisherman. In the early 1970's, Ralph began a love for horse racing and owned several racehorses with his dear friend, Gene De Matteo. He was a mechanic for several Chevrolet dealerships, and then moved on to King County Metro as their lead mechanic. He retired from Metro in 1994. In 1985, he met and married Ruth Roumm. They spent 25 years together, travelling the world until her passing in 2009. Their favorite destination was Maui where they spent several months a year. Ralph is survived by his daughter, Saralyn Brown (Glen), son, Michael Eskenazi, his brother Leo Eskenazi of La Jolla, CA, grandchildren Nicole and Stephen Brown, step-children Edie Webster (Charlie), Evie West (Ted) and Gary Roumm (Chris), and many step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Services will be held at the Seattle Sephardic Brotherhood Cemetery, 1230 167th Ave. N, Shoreline, 98133 on Sunday, September 26th at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Evergreen Chapter of the ALS Association, the Kline-Galland Home or the Seattle Sephardic Brotherhood. We would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Summit and Kline-Galland Home for their tender, loving care of our father. Our dad was well loved and was a gentle, caring man who never raised his voice or had a bad thing to say about anyone. He will forever be in our hearts

Funeral was held on Sunday, September 26, 2010, at 2:00 PM.
