Jack David Israel, 88, died Wednesday, March 28, 2012 in Bellevue, Wash. Jack was born on July 29, 1923 in Seattle, to David and Marie Israel. He was a proud lifelong Seattleite. He grew up in the Central District and maintained lifelong friendships with many of his childhood friends from the neighborhood. He graduated from Garfield High School and the University of Washington.He spent his entire career as an engineer at Boeing. Jack met Myrna Scham through mutual friends and married in Chicago on November 5, 1950.She agreed to marry him because he promised her a life of travel and that he would show her the world. He kept his promise: In the 50 years they spent together they traveled to every continent but Antarctica and shared many happy vacations with friends and family. He was a poet who had a rhyme for every family occasion and news headline. Jack self-published five books of poetry.He was also featured in a book of poetry and in the Seattle Times opinion pages. He was always quick with a joke and loved to make people smile. Mr. Israel is survived by his daughters, Karen Israel (Steve Goodman) and Nancy Corning (Jim); his grandchildren Jessica Hyde (Andre Hruby) and William Hyde (Kelly Milliken); sisters Rita Calderon (Jack z'l), Grace Azose (Solomon "Mo" z'l), and Raye Behar (Sam); and sister-in law Dolly Levy (Julian). He is also survived by his dog and best friend Cisco. He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrna Israel; brother Bob Israel (Rita z'l) and sister Sarah Alhadeff (David z'l). The memorial service held at Evergreen Washelli on Friday, March 30, 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choosing.
