Lucia Sulam Passes Away

With sadness, we inform you of the passing away of Lucia Sulam on April 2, 2010.  She was born in 1923 in Rhodes and she died in Rhodes.  She was one of 150 Jews of Rhodes who survived the Holocaust.  She faithfully served as the caretaker of the Kahal Shalom synagogue for decades and her service to the Jewish community has been highly appreciated.  She is survived by her two daughters.

My father and mother, Liv and Katie Franco used to take us to Rhodes when we were growing up in Italy every summer. We have not been back since my dad died and miss coming to visit it very much. Now that you dear Lucia you are no longer there to be the custodian angel of the Kahal a big void will be felt, Que tu alma repose en Ganeden.

    Rita and Albert Alhadeff:

Rest in Peace Lucia. We hadn’t seen you in a while but we have always been very close to you. We will never forget the time spent together in Rhodes; how close you were to my parents and how you prepared our wedding at the Synagogue; the first after World War 2. We will be visiting Rhodes and will stop by to say “Hi” wherever you are laid to rest. Rita, Noam, Sarah and Albert Alhadeff

I met Lucia Sulam when I visited Rhodes in 1979 and I had no idea she was still alive up to so recently. She was a lovely person. I have no doubts she was very well received by the All-Mighty.
